Gold/Burgundy Modern Heart

One basic topper design with many colour scheme variations! These toppers are really easy to make on a large scale and so are perfect for wedding stationery. Make matching Wedding, Evening, Order of Service, Thank You cards and even Menus by using these toppers on pearlised card blanks with appropriate wedding banners. If you don’t want to use the idea for wedding cards then they will work very well for Valentine’s cards as well. Pictured here are two finished cards using a couple of the toppers, further down are pictures of 12 variations of the topper.

These are the various items used to make these toppers:

  1. Woodware super duper square punch
  2. Woodware super square punch
  3. Pearlised gold & cream card
  4. Dark Red Handmade Mulberry Paper
  5. Dark Red With Gold Threads Mulberry Tissue Paper
  6. Modern Hearts Burgundy
  7. Modern Hearts Gold
  8. Craft glue and/or Sticky foam pads

Obviously not all of the above items are used on every topper, simply select the card/paper and heart colour of your choice to suit your wedding stationery colour scheme.

Use the super duper square and super square craft punches to punch out backing squares from the card/paper types you have chosen.

Important Tip: If you have chosen Mulberry tissue paper for one or both of your backing layer squares, do not try to punch through it as it is as the punch will not cut through it cleanly and it may tear as it is too thin. Simply place the sheet of Mulberry tissue paper between two sheets of ordinary plain paper like printer paper and then punch through all of the layers for a clean cut.

Once you have punched all of your squares layer the smaller super squares on top of the larger super duper squares and secure them either with craft glue or with sticky foam pads for a raised 3D look.

Stick the heart of the colour of your choice onto the centre of the two squares again using craft glue or sticky foam pads.

Shown below are some suggested colour choices within the dark red, gold and ivory colour scheme that we have chosen here. Click on each picture for a larger view and a description of the card/paper types and all colours used.

‘LOVE’ Valentine’s Card

This red, gold and silver Valentine’s card uses padded material shapes for a lovely raised look and scalloped heart punchies on the background for extra interest.

Multiple Material LOVE Valentine’s card

What you will need to make this card:

  1. Slimline (A5 tall) scarlet red card blank
  2. Woodware Large Lever Craft Punch – Scalloped Heart
  3. Woodware Super Duper Lever Craft Punch – Square
  4. Pearlised card in gold, red and silver
  5. 2cm Padded Material Hearts – Red Satin
  6. Padded Material ‘LOVE’ – Metallic Gold
  7. Padded Material ‘LOVE’ – Metallic Silver
  8. Padded Material ‘LOVE’ – Red Satin
  9. 5mm sticky foam pads, strong craft glue
  10. Scissors

Directions to make:

Using the large scalloped heart craft punch cut out 9 heart shapes – 3 from the gold card, 3 from the silver card and 3 from the red card. Arrange these hearts on the front of the card blank starting top right with a silver heart, then a red one a bit lower on the left, then a gold one a bit lower again on the right and repeat this pattern left and right until you end with a gold heart bottom right. The hearts on the left lean over to the left and the hearts on the right lean over to the right. Once you are happy with the positioning of the hearts use craft glue to attach each one to the card blank. Use scissors to trim the very top silver heart and bottom gold heart as shown in the picture so they are flush with the edge of the card blank and give the illusion of the pattern continuing.

Next using the super duper square craft punch cut out a square from more of the gold card. Again using the craft glue carefully attach the 3 material word LOVEs to the gold card square, starting with the metallic gold at the top, the red satin in the centre and the metallic silver at the bottom. Once the glue has dried use several sticky foam pads to attach the embellished gold square to the card blank so it sits in between the first and second red scalloped heart shape without overlapping them.

Finally use craft glue to attach a red satin padded material heart to the centre of each of the 3 red card scalloped heart shapes. The material hearts are also scalloped so fit nicely onto the punched hearts with a small border of the red card showing around the edge which does give a nice effect.
