Mother’s Day Lilac/Pink Card

This deluxe Mother’s Day card has the added interest of being made from a gatefold card and the overlapping design gives it a bit of a different touch. N.B. Gatefold card blanks are also sometimes known as wardrobe fold.

Mother’s Day Lilac/Pink Card

  4. A4 Card – Alchemy Pearlised Lilac
  5. Spare card off-cuts.
  6. Flowers Peel Off Sheet – Lilac
  7. Father’s/Mother’s Day/Brother/Sister Peel Off Sheet – Gold
  8. Woodware Mini Round Brads – Pastel
  9. 5mm sticky foam pads and 6mm double sided sticky tape
  10. Craft knife, pencil, ruler & cutting mat
  11. Decoupage/precision scissors

Directions to make:

Punch out a circle from the hot raspberry pink pearlised card using the super duper circle craft punch. Measure and cut the circle into two equal halves. Using double sided sticky tape stick the half circles to either side of the card blank with the edges lined up on the centre opening and the top of the half circles about 1cm down from the top edge of the card blank.

Next measure and cut out two strips from the same hot raspberry pink card. The strips should be 6mm wide and the exact height of the card blank. Use double sided sticky tape to stick one strip down the very left hand side of the card blank and the other down the very right hand side.

Next peel off one of the largest outline flowers from the lilac flowers peel off sheet. Let the sticker relax for a minute on the end of your craft knife, to allow it to regain shape if it has stretched at all and stick it to the lilac pearlised card. Remove the 7 solid flower petal centres and the middle solid circle that were left on the peel off sheet when you removed the flower and stick all of these onto the spare card off-cuts.

Carefully cut out round the outside of the large flower, then carefully cut out each of the petals and central circle as well. Use sticky foam pads to mount the centre circle in the centre of the large flower and each petal in the centre of the petals on the large flower. Next cut out by hand a small circle from the hot raspberry pink card and use a foam pad to mount this in the centre of the flower. To the centre of this small circle stick one of the smaller flower centres from the peel off sheet.

On the back of the left hand side of the finished flower use double sided sticky tape to mount it to the left hand pink half circle on the card blank making sure that when the card is closed flat the flower is central in the whole circle. Ensure that you do not apply any sticky tape to the back of the right hand side of the flower that overlaps the card opening.

Next from the hot raspberry card cut two strips measuring 6.5cm x 1.5cm and one strip measuring 6.5cm x 2cm. On the left hand side of both of the two narrower strips stick one of the smallest outline flowers from the lilac flower peel off sheet. Carefully cut round the petals on the left hand side of the flowers. On the right hand side of the slightly bigger strip stick one of the slightly bigger outline flowers and carefully cut round the petals on the right hand side of the flower, then trim the strip down without chopping off the flower petals so that the height matches that of the other two strips (1.5cm).

Using a craft knife carefully push a small hole through the centre of the flowers on each of the three strips. Through each of these holes push a lilac mini round brad and bend the prongs at the back.

From the gold Father’s/Mother’s Day/Brother/Sister peel off sheet remove the words ‘Happy’, ‘Mother’s’ and ‘Day’. Apply the ‘Happy’ and ‘Day’ to the two strips with the smaller flowers and the ‘Mother’s’ to the strip with the larger flower.

Use sticky foam pads to mount the ‘Happy’ strip underneath the large circle to the left flap of the card blank, then mount the ‘Mother’s’ strip a bit lower to the right flap of the card blank and finally mount the ‘Day’ strip at the bottom on the left flap again.

All three wording strips will overlap the central opening, take care to ensure that you do not apply any sticky foam pads to the overlapping sections of the strips. When completely shut the flower and wording strips all lay flat but when the card is partly open, as shown in the picture, the flower and strips overlap the gap for a lovely effect.
