This card uses Christmas glitter brads with pearlised card square punchies in the same way as on the square ‘Christmas Glitter Brads Card’ that I previously posted. With the addition of sparkle paper, ribbon and mini round brads, this version has an even more luxurious look and an even more tactile finish.
What you will need to make this card:
- Slimline (A5 tall) white card blank
- A5 sparkle paper pack – formal colours
- Pearlised card in green, red, silver and ivory (or cream)
- Woodware Super Lever Craft Punch – Square
- Woodware Large Lever Craft Punch – Square
- Some spare card any colour (measuring at least 21cm x 2.75cm)
- Silver 5mm ribbon
- Woodware Mini Round Brads – Christmas Colours
- Woodware Glitter Brads – Christmas
- 5mm sticky foam pads, sticky foam tape & 6mm double sided sticky tape
- Craft knife, pencil, ruler & cutting mat
How to make the card:
Take a sheet of the silver with silver glitter paper from the sparkle paper pack, measure and cut out a piece sized 7.5cm x 21cm. Apply a strip of double sided sticky tape close to each of the four edges of the paper and stick this to the front of the card blank making sure it is straight along all the edges, trimming away any overlapping paper if necessary.
Next measure and cut a 2.75cm x 21cm piece from the spare card. Take a sheet of the white with silver glitter paper from the sparkle paper pack, measure and cut out a piece sized 4cm x 21cm. Apply strips of double sided sticky tape to the full length of all of the edges (front and back) of the strip of card you cut out earlier. Stick the strip of card to the centre of the strip of white sparkle paper and fold the edges of the paper over to the back of the card strip and stick them down.
On the back of the white sparkle paper covered strip of card using a pencil make a mark exact centre, then make marks at regular 2.5cm intervals from either side of the central mark until you end up with 9 marks in total. The outermost two marks should be around 5mm from the top and bottom of the card strip. Using your craft knife make a small hole at each of these marks.
Cut a 25cm length of the 5mm silver ribbon, find the centre of the ribbon and push a green mini round brad through it and then from front to back through the centre most hole in the card strip. Keeping the ribbon relatively tight but not stretching it, push more green brads through the ribbon and the remaining 8 holes. Turn the card strip over and bend back the prongs of all the brads. Wrap the loose ends of the ribbon over the top and bottom of the card strip and secure at the back with fairly wide strips of sticky foam tape. Apply two more similar strips of sticky foam tape at even intervals in between the first two strips. Peel the backing off the foam strips and then stick the whole thing to the card so the card strip is lined up with the very left hand side of the card blank.
Take the super square craft punch and punch one square of each colour of the pearlised card (green, red, silver and ivory). Next repeat this step but using the large square craft punch to punch a square of each colour of the pearlised card.
On the reverse of each of the smaller squares draw a pencil line diagonally from the tip of one top corner to the tip of the opposite bottom corner and repeat from the other top corner to it’s opposite bottom corner. Where the two lines cross in the middle marks the exact centre of each square. Place the squares onto your craft cutting mat, using the tip of the blade of your craft knife make a small hole just ABOVE centre on the red and green card squares and dead on the centre of the ivory and the silver card squares.
Next push a silver snowflake glitter brad through the hole on the ivory card, a green Christmas tree glitter brad through the hole on the red card, a cream snowflake glitter brad through the hole on the silver card and finally a red Christmas tree glitter brad through the hole on the green card. Align the brads and bend the prongs back pointing into the corners of the squares so the ends do not show when the squares are turned right way up. You also need to make sure that the Christmas trees are straight when you look at them from the front.
Then use 5mm sticky foam pads to mount the ivory square with the silver snowflake onto the super red square, the red square with the green Christmas tree onto the super silver square, the silver square with the cream snowflake onto the super green square and finally the green square with the red Christmas tree onto the super ivory square.
To finish the card off use double sided sticky tape to mount the finished squares onto the card blank as shown in the picture lining them up as straight as you can. It is a good idea to start by placing the top and bottom squares at matching distances from the top and bottom of the card blank and then to place the two middle squares at even gaps in between them.
